Mentor Maestro is a family-owned company, based in Melbourne, Australia and Janet Powell is The Parenting Coach. Our programmes are designed to support each family within their belief system. We focus on helping family members to function, connect and achieve in their cultural framework.
As a parent to three children herself, and now a grandmother to three beautiful little girls, Janet is passionate about sharing the skills and philosophy for a wonderful parenting adventure. She will offer encouragement for the growth of calm, loving families, and recognition of the value these families bring to our world.
Janet has spent many years interacting with parents and children, through play-groups, kindergarten and school volunteer groups and parent associations, as a Cub Scout leader, and as a presenter of a Science Show for children. Janet has worked in child-care centres and kindergartens, where her experience as a parent was valued.
With over thirty years of parenting experience , Janet knows the joys and many of the difficulties of raising children. She will encourage other parents to find the will and the way to make decisions wisely and achieve wonderful outcomes in their families. She strongly believes in the power and value of great parenting, and is keen to help mothers and fathers feel good about being parents.
With qualifications in Applied Science and Children’s Services, Janet’s mission now is to raise the profile of motherhood and fatherhood, to help parents gain effective parenting skills and to empower parents to allow their children free and long childhood, creating happier, less stressed families.
Exciting news! Janet is about to train as a Baby Massage Instructor (February, 2011) So a new service will be added to the Mentor Maestro suite - there will be training for parents to develop their own massage skills. Baby massage has been shown to be therapeutic for both parent and baby, as the gentle touch can increase bonding and improve physical well-being in the child. Group classes and private sessions can be arranged.
Janet Powell regularly attends professional development seminars and networking events, mixing with many parents of diverse backgrounds . As a result of these, Janet is up-to-date with parenting issues and solutions and has a support base of professionals who can add complementary expertise to the services Mentor Maestro offers. As a parent educator, Janet knows the value of looking at parenting challenges from a holistic viewpoint.
